On 29 Nov 2016, I purchased the Domain Name arimecibo.com through
WebHostingPad for one year. There was no clear advantage to purchasing for more years and I was on a budget, having just purchased Christmas gifts for my daughters and their families. I also purchased rental space on their server for four years. There was a clear economic advantage, the WebHostingPad introductory rate.
On 30 Nov 2016, I began to upload and configure the software that would run the website features. These included:
Simple Machines Forum (SMF) version 2.0.12
Coppermine Photo Gallery (CPG) version 1.5.44
Ajax Chat version 0.8.8 with Simple Machines Forum integration
The default language for Simple Machines Forum is English. For the benefit of members for whom English is not their first language, I installed these Language Packs:
English-utf8
English British-utf8
French-utf8
German-utf8
German Informal-utf8
Greek-utf8
Hebrew-utf8
Italian-utf8
Polish-utf8
Russian-utf8
Spanish Español-utf8
Spanish Latin-utf8
The "-utf8" versions allow for use of the International Character Set, so that characters from any language will be properly displayed.
The physical layout of the website is:
http://www.arimecibo.com/ Landing page/index.htm (Introduction to the website)
http://www.arimecibo.com/coppermine/index.php (Introduction to the Arimecibo Island Photo Gallery
http://www.arimecibo.com/smf/index.php (Introduction to the Arimecibo Island Forum)
http://www.arimecibo.com/smf/chat/index.php (Ajax Chat files)
http://www.arimecibo.com/noquiexis/index.htm (Introduction to my personal HTML pages):
"Five Lines - Four Spaces"
These pages are redundant to my forum posts, but present them in a "Family-friendly" and "Work safe" environment.
On 30 Nov 2016 I began the tedious process of uploading my pictures to the gallery. I did not put Titles or Descriptions on most of the pictures. I wanted the pictures in place before I edited my personal HTML files, and before I populated the forum with my posts.
The newer version of CPG handles filenames a bit differently than earlier versions. I had to edit a lot of my picture links to get the pictures to show up on my personal HTML pages, and on the forum pages. As of 22 Dec 2016 there is still work to do.
On 16 Dec 2016 I uploaded all of my personal HTML pages and the website Landing page. I also backed up the Coppermine and Simple Machines Forum databases to my home computer. I sent an e-mail to "An Honored Few" to introduce them to the website and get their opinions on layout. Constructive suggestions are always welcome.
It is my intention to announce the official launch of the website to
Our Doll Community, the rest of my family, and a few choice friends after the first of the year.
