Continuing eye saga
« on: December 26, 2016, 09:01:47 PM »
For those of you following my eye purchase from MannequinFan, you'll recall that I had a terrible time with her eyebrows. I drew them and she looked like Chaka from LOTL.
Tried some sticker type but they peeled off as they aren't meant to stick on TPE.

Finally I bit the bullet and went back to headcovers.com and got a pair of real human hair eyebrows and a small container of latex glue.
I got her the brownish black ones.
The whole shebang was about $62 but the results are amazing! Pics below.
I do have to trim the one on her left eye as the mounting mat extends past the hair. The right one is PERFECT!
Sorry about the paint on my hand, had to cut in the kitchen ceiling this afternoon.

She looks a bit different at this stage but similar enough to be my Brynn. She is actually starting to look *gasp* real.
Thought about eyeliner and such on the lower lid but Mrs Doc likes her as is. I have to let her have some say as she's very supportive of me having Brynn.
Maybe I'll sneak those lower lashes back on when she isn't looking!  8)

I had no Idea you could buy real human hair eyebrows.

They look great on her and I will be looking into a pair for Kim!

They aren't cheap but the results, along with ManniquinFan's quick change eyes and lids are incredible!
The Secure Hold adhesive (they show it as a companion item) has not hurt the TPE as far as I can see. Well worth the money spent.

The lashes I got at Rite-Aid but honestly, The Dollar Store (US) carries what appear to be the same lashes under another name and they're $5 less.
Save where you can so you can spend where you have to!

My little hot rod thanks you for the compliment!

As for the decorating, as I've said before, my wife supports me having a doll so I do what I can.  8)

The ceiling is so old and tobacco stained (previous owner) that I have to hit it with a SECOND coat of Behr paint with primer.
You know, the stuff that's guaranteed to cover in one coat?
It's quality paint but this ceiling is just a hard case.

How did you close her eye?

Is that photo shop or is her eye really closed?

It's really closed! ODC (and TDF) member ManniquinFan sells awesome replacement eyes with lids.
The iris' are magnetic and you can change color in under a minute!
As you can see though, they stay open just a bit on the bottom.

The closing eyes are really sweet for when she goes to sleep at night. No more staring into the dark or getting blinded when I turn on the light in the morning! :thumb:

Don't know how I missed this.

I will contact ManniquinFan and see if he has eyes for my YL155.

Thanks

You're welcome Coral.
It's really a fabulous upgrade.

The set comes with upper and lower lids.
I'm actually using the  lower lid on top. I attached the eyelashes to that one.

With these couple of upgrades, if she'd turn to me and start talking, I don't think I'd be surprised.

They look great Doc. You can buy lashes and brows from International Wig too, besides wigs; http://www.internationalwigs.com/Eyelashes-and-Brows-s/23.htm

I have been thinking about getting a set of eyes from Mannequin Fan mostly to make it easier moving the eyes. Also I like green eyes but Carleigh/Shelby's eyes are a bit too much on the dayglow side.

Thanks for the link!

Yes, Brynn's original eyes were like that. Very bright green. They are now sitting in a closet until I can bring myself to toss them.
These are more subtle. I got green and a set of sweet brown ones. The brown are heart melters too.

You almost have to go with green as she's got that beautiful red hair. It's a killer combo.

Sooooo... did she sit on your lap and tell you how she was a naughty girl this year?

It's funny that the green eyes I got for Korri are a normal green color. I haven't checked to see if they are the same size. The green eyes look a bit smaller than the brown ones she came with.

She insists that she has been good...At being naughty

Brynn's looking more and more lovely as you enhance her looks to ones you like, bit like decorating .. :)

And you need to use "stain block" paint on those bad surfaces in the kitchen

Thank you! I think she's really coming into her own.

Just second coated the ceiling. Looks good and Mrs Doc is happy. Just have to hang the new LED fixture and then... I can start on the walls.  :blank:
I had to deal with this in our fist home. It was built in '66 and we bought from the original owners. Smoked in for about 35 years. Had to double coat everything that was a white ceiling twice.
I was prepared for that here. I think even if I used Kilz first, I would have had to do it twice.

Can't imagine what this guy's lungs look like. His family had it built in the '50's and he lived here his entire life. EVERYONE smoked.
We damn near choked when we looked at it with the realtor.
Good times...
